[4D News] Kim Hyun Joong Expresses His Disinterest in Acting

Kim Hyun Joong expressed his disinterest in acting when he first debuted as an actor. He’s long been criticized for his lack of acting skills, despite earning a number of lead roles due to his pretty face and popularity.

On the April 14 episode of MBC “K-Pop Star in the World – Lucky Guy Kim Hyun Joong,” the star actor/singer revealed his true feelings about the acting criticism. He said, “To be honest, and I’m sorry to all the sunbaes or people studying acting now, but I started out with absolutely no interest in acting. That’s probably why there were so many criticism on my acting in the early part of my career.”

Song Byung Joon, the director of Kim Hyun Joong’s two main dramas, “Boys over Flowers” and "Playful Kiss,” added, “His (Kim Hyun Joong) reading was literally just ‘reading’ the script. He read it like elementary school students reading their textbooks in class. At first the scriptwriter was frustrated. So we talked about it and I told the scriptwriter that since Kim Hyun Joong does not know what a ‘script reading’ session is, let’s try and wait to pull out his potential.”

Yang Yoon Ho, the producer of “Iris,” also said, “Of course I love Kim Hyun Joong, but the reason we bet on him is pretty clear. He has huge potential to become a mega star and he really takes good care of himself. His popularity now puts no pressure on him and he’s able to control everything. Even if his popularity grows, he seems like a person who will be able to handle it.”

Since his debut as part of SS501, Kim Hyun Joong expanded his resume to acting by appearing in the 2009 KBS drama “Boys over Flowers.” In 2010, he appeared in his second TV series, MBC “Playful Kiss.”

However, due to his lack of experience, many critics pointed to his poor acting skills and unclear articulation. There were also concerns that he lacked the charisma and leadership to play the lead role in any TV drama. But he’s been able to significantly improve his acting over the years and is now considered one of the very few idol stars with the star power to single-handedly lead a TV show.

Between April 9 and 15, music site Monkey3 ran a poll asking fans to vote for an idol that would heal your heart just by looking at him/her. 1,953 netizens participated in the survey, and an overwhelming number of them voted Kim Hyun Joong no. 1 as their “healing-dol.”
Kim Hyun Joong won by a landslide, taking home 1,044 votes (53%). Those who voted for the singer actor explained, “Just looking at him makes me happy,” “When I see Kim Hyun Joong, my heart warms up, and I feel consoled,” “Both my eyes and heart are happy,” “There’s just no explanation needed. It’s Kim Hyun Joong,” and more.
CNBlue’s Jung Yong Hwa took home the second, while IU, Big Bang’s G-Dragon, miss A’s Suzy, and Wonder Girls’ Sohee followed.

[4DNews] Kim Hyun Joong Set to Break Record in Singapore

Kim Hyun Joong is set to break the record by any performing artist in Singapore by offering the closest interaction with his audience during his mini-concert on May 4. Originally, only 500 lucky fans would be picked to high-five with him through a ballot. However, Kim Hyun Joong has personally requested to extend this to everyone in attendance, meaning a whopping 3000 fans will now get the opportunity to get up-close and personal with the star! This is an unprecedented gesture from a pop idol.

High-five sessions are normally private sessions that are open to only a small group of fans as part of the fan-meeting package. Fans would either pay a premium fee to enjoy the chance for interaction with their favorite artiste or pray that their lady luck shines on them brightly for them to be picked through a lucky draw. However, Kim Hyun Joong has taken this a step further by expressing his wish to high-five every single member of the audience.

"This is a very special request we’ve received, which proves Kim Hyun Joong’s immense devotion to his fans. We are glad that fans in Singapore will get a very personal touch - pun intended - with Kim Hyun Joong; but we’re also excited that all members in the audience will be part of a record-breaking moment," says Wendy Ng, Executive Producer of Running Into The Sun.

On top of that, Kim Hyun Joong will also be giving away to everyone in the audience one set of the U:ZOOSIN T-shirt and brooch, a cartoon avatar created by Kim Hyun Joong himself. These will be specially made for his fan meeting tour. U:ZOOSIN has sold 50,000 units in Korea alone, boasting approximately USD1,900,000 in sales.

"Kim Hyun Joong 2012 Asia Fan Meeting in Singapore" will showcase more than 10 songs and interactive segments in a two-hour show. Premiere seats, which are seats closest to the stage, have completely sold out. However, fans may still purchase good seats from the Arena and Terrace categories through SISTIC. This fan-meeting will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 4. The interview event started from March 20th continuing up to April 18th, and it recorded 313,000 page hits as well as 217,000 visitors and 24,000 participants in Korea alone. The response was also explosive in Taiwan and Hong Kong, as 252,6000 hits were received from the local areas, as well as 96,915 page visitors and 26,000 participants.
On April 26th, the ‘Yahoo! Celeb Mission Interview with Kim Hyun Joong’ was held, and 5 fans were selected from Hong Kong and Korea to ask him questions they’ve been wanting to ask. Even when fans asked silly questions such as which era would he like to visit if he could hop into a time machine, Kim Hyun Joong was not caught off-guard and maintained a fun atmosphere on set.
He also didn’t forget to bring out his 4D personality while stating, “If I had the opportunity, I would like to see the Mayan civilization or the Inca Empire with my very own eyes. Kim HyunJoong will be kicking off his fanmeeting this May starting in Singapore. Not only Kim HyunJoong but including his agency Key East have been busy preparing for this fanmeeting 2 week before. 


What really had garnered the attention is Kim HyunJoong's love for the fans. It is usually the agency who prepares the gifts for fans in fanmeeting, but Kim HyunJoong have planned to take part in the gift selection's meeting directly himself. 


According to an official of Key East to MyDaily on 20th April, 'Kim HyunJoong is directly preparing the gift for the fans, putting all his effort in it', expressing his love for the fans. 


Not only this, it is also decided that Kim HyunJoong will be meeting all his fans 1 on 1. According to the official, 'I wanted to meet every fans that come to the event', expressing on Kim HyunJoong's behalf, 'The time doesn't matter as long as the fans can meet Kim HyunJoong', he explained.

While preparing for his concert, Kim Hyun Joong became a strict professional, while when he was with his colleagues and staff, he transformed into their closest friend.

In the documentary, Kim Hyun Joong added to the moving air by saying, "Concerts are a time when I can communicate and be in harmony with my audience. My role is to touch the hearts of those who have come to see the performance."

Kim Hyun Joong will update his Korean fans about his recent activities and whereabouts on the upcoming episode of MBC special "K-Pop Star Bewitches the World - Lucky Guy Kim Hyun Joong." This program documents Kim Hyun Joong's overseas activities, album preparation, and concert practices and his earnest feelings and opinions. Since he has not made on-screen appearance in Korea for a while, this will quench the thirst of his fans. 

Moreover, Kim Hyun Joong discusses his recent depression on the show. "K-Pop Star Bewitches the World" will also document his long lasting friendship with JYJ's Jaejoong since before their debut, as well as what other friends honestly think of him as a person, singer, and actor.  

"K-Pop Star Bewitches the World" is a documentary series studying in what ways K-Pop hype is headed to and how it can improve itself through looking at K-Pop stars' lives. The program will be following top K-Pop stars like Kim Hyun Joong, CNBLUE, B2ST, and IU and go through a full 24 hour day with them to see just what is behind the scenes, in an effort to better determine whether the Hallyu wave can continue to grow all over the world or eventually run stagnant.
The focus will be on Kim Hyun Joong, especially since he’s created a Hallyu empire with his name alone. One Japanese critic had stated, “In 2012, the direction of K-Pop will change to focus on solo artists, and Kim Hyun Joong is expected to stand as leader of that change. All eyes are on him.”
